If you were wondering, the original 13 colonies were Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.

Preparing for the Oath is an award-winning online course first developed in 2013 to prepare immigrants in successfully passing the citizenship exam. We were delighted when the Smithsonian came back to ask us to update the project, rebuilding the site in HTML to be accessible on mobile, tablet and desktops.

The site maintains the dynamic rich media vignettes, interactive activities, and practice tests of the original, providing students with context and understanding of the people, events, and concepts that have shaped American democracy.
